The orange on the clay is a natural reaction of the wood ash in the kiln to the clay; this chemical reaction causing the clay to change color from white to variations in orange.
 
Microwave & dishwasher safe, but I recommend for the longer life of the ceramic to hand wash. Beware of thermal shock- read about it in the information section.
